Before going ahead with garage door replacement, be it for a residential, commercial or industrial building, there are several factors to consider. Perhaps the most important is aesthetic appeal, but other considerations are security functions, safety features, the type of drive system, lighting, fixed or remote controlled and, of course, price.

What Type of Material is Best?

The main materials used for garage door replacement are steel and wood. The one you select depends on your budget, the style of your home or business, and how comfortable (temperature-wise) you want the garage to be. Overhead Doors

A very popular choice! The big advantage over hinged and tilting garage systems is that there’s no threat of damaging a car that’s parked close to the door. Being automatic, they are easy to use and most have excellent safety features. When opened, the door rolls up and lies at the top of the garage roof (inside). Overhead doors are compact, smooth and quiet.

Wooden Doors

Wooden garage doors are relatively affordable, beautiful and, for many people, they are the ultimate choice. Cedar is said to be a good wood for garage doors because it has a low wood density and therefore offers exceptional dimensional stability. Of all the main softwoods, cedar has the lowest shrinkage factor. Unlike steel, wooden garage doors will need to be re-finished every few years to keep them in good condition.
