A wooden door is the obvious “green” choice, but wood can pose some problems, so here are ways to keep your new door looking beautiful for many years.

• Regular Washing: It is imperative to keep a wooden garage door clean. If foreign objects and dirt aren’t removed, they can cause damage. Regular washing with soap and water will increase the lifespan of the door and also help to get rid of insects.
• Regular Staining or Painting: Keep the door in peak condition by staining or painting it regularly. This provides a protective seal and prevents foreign elements from weakening the wood. Scrape, clean, prime and stain or repaint the door whenever you see flaking, peeling or bubbling. It goes without saying that you should use eco-friendly products.
• Replace Damaged Panels: If the door is made of panels and termites or rot have set in, or if you notice weakness in a particular section, have the damaged panel removed and replaced. It can be stained or painted to match the rest of the door. It’s always advisable to get the new section from the door manufacturer and to have it installed by a garage door specialist.
