How to Reset Your Garage Door Opener and Remotes [infographic]

Did your garage door opener stop working and you think a re-boot might help? Need to reset your garage door keypad code? Here’s how!

1. It helps to have 2 people for this job in order to reach the opener, remotes, and/or keypad concurrently.
2. Always check the batteries first to be sure everything is functional.
3. Garage door openers and keypads typically have the instructions for resetting written on them. Check these first, as each brand may have slight variations.
4. On the garage door opener, find the “learn” button. This button is usually red or blue and sometimes is receded to where you might need a pen/pencil to press it.
5. Press the learn button. The indicator light will then either begin to flash or light up for about 30 seconds. This indicates that all systems have been reset and your remotes and keypad will not work.
6. While the light is blinking or on for 30 seconds, Point your garage door remotes at the opener and press and hold the button.
7. The light should become steady, indicating that the garage door remote is now in sync with the opener.
8. In order to change your keypad, repeat this process. When the light is on, you have about 30 seconds to enter your new code. Remember that this code should be something easy for you to remember, but difficult for someone else to guess.
9. After the keypad and remote are set, the indicator light will blink and then go off.
10. Congratulations, you have now reset your garage door opener, keypad, and remotes!
