What to Do if Your Garage Door Won't Open [infographic]

1. Check that the garage door opener is plugged in and the circuit breaker is connected and functioning.
2. Check the batteries in your garage door remote or keypad. If the batteries are new, try resetting them to sync with the garage door opener.
3. Make sure the sensors aren’t obstructed in any way.
4. If the garage door won’t open or close all the way, or reverses when it gets to a certain point, you probably need to adjust the limit switch for the height of your garage door area.
5. If it still is not opening, pull the emergency release cord to detach it from the system. Then try to open the garage door manually.
6. See if the spring is broken. If so, it will be hard or impossible to open the garage door manually.
7. If everything seems fine but the garage door is still not opening, it could be something more serious. Call in a professional and have them check it over.
8. Get quotes on the garage door parts that might need repairs or on garage door replacement if the door is old or broken beyond simple repair.
9. It is best to have a professional garage door company perform garage door installation or repairs and make sure everything is working properly again
